This is an area of the Smith that is not frequently visited or seen. We spent considerable time in this region for several reasons. One of the more humorous moments concerned us walking back to our vehicle as a 4-500lb black bear walked down the middle of the road directly toward us as though it wanted to make friends. Once it realized we were standing on the side in the shade it took off up into the hills. It was a beautiful jet black in color.
